China stimulus plan to bolster regional economies

BEIJING'S mammoth economic rescue package will focus overwhelmingly on construction, raising hopes China can help to stabilise global commodity markets and the regional economy as it did through the Asian financial crisis of the late-1990s. The Government's 4 trillion yuan ($857 billion) package was short on details but economists said it would provide a huge boost to China's economy through to 2010.

The vast expansion of US-led globalized trade since the Cold War ended in 1991 had been fueled by unsustainable serial debt bubbles built on dollar hegemony, which came into existence on a global scale with the emergence of deregulated global financial markets that made cross-border flow of funds routine since the 1990s.
