Beijing to release strict new housing rules
Beijing will release new housing regulations on Wednesday, making it the first city to have a detailed policy after the State Council, or the cabinet, released 10 guidelines on April 17 in a bid to maintain stability in the housing market, the Shanghai Securities News reported.
The newspaper cited people familiar with the matter and said Beijing's detailed regulations are based on the 10 guidelines but would be stricter in their implementation.
The city would limit the number of houses local residents can buy, and ban loans to non-residents' third-house purchases, the newspaper reported.
Shenzhen and Shanghai are also planning to create detailed housing regulations, with the former being likely to limit the number of houses local residents can buy, according to the newspaper.

Failure Is Not an Option
By THOMAS L. FRIEDMAN
China is having a good week in America. Yes it is. I’d even suggest that there is some high-fiving going on in Beijing. I mean, wouldn’t you if you saw America’s Democratic and Republican leaders conspiring to ensure that America cedes the next great global industry — E.T., energy technology — to China?

Deeper unity lurks in Confucian embrace
By Francesco Sisci
BEIJING - Let's be fair. The issue is so real that it is puzzling to us even now: how can one be both Christian and Confucian? In the 16th and 17th centuries, at the time when the West was torn by cruel wars between Catholics and Protestants, Jesuits - the Catholic soldiers of Christ - fought blasphemy, and Protestants were arguing from the farthest East that a man could be both Catholic and Confucian.

Yuan-linked inflation ahead
By Axel Merk and Kieran Osborne
There has been a lot of recent news and evidence supporting the likelihood of the Chinese authorities allowing the Chinese currency, the yuan or renminbi, to trade within a wider trading band. Why?
China is unlikely to allow its currency to appreciate because of external pressures, such as US political pressure; we believe China will move when Chinese policymakers deem it in their national interest. While this is not a certainty, we anticipate that inflationary pressures will force the Chinese authorities' hand. In our opinion, currency appreciation would be a more effective tool to help manage domestic inflationary pressures, as opposed to the relatively draconian bank regulations presently in place. Indeed, the Chinese have recently conducted studies on the likelyimpact a stronger yuan would have on the domestic economy
