How we approach a translation
Either Xiaosui or Graeme reads the original document, depending on whether it is in Chinese or English.
We then discuss the document generally.
Either Xiaosui or Graeme translates the document, depending on whether it is in Chinese or English.
We then both translate one whole meaning or concept at a time. That can be a word, a phrase, a sentence or a paragraph.
This creates a Draft Translation.
The Draft translation is read and discussed one meaning at a time, and a second Draft is created.
Either Xiaosui or Graeme reads the second Draft in its entirety to check that it flows and works as a complete document. Any minor corrections or revisions are made.
This produces the Final Document.
The Final Document is sent for approval.
We are not cheap, but we are the best
We charge an hourly rate of $60.
There is a minimum charge of $100.
We find it is very difficult to fix a rate as each translation is different. Either you pay too much or we are paid too little.

This rate is for standard written correspondence, forms, standard emails, non-technical business correspondence.
Kaixin does not handle specialist technical areas such as medical, science, computing and the like.
Specialist creative writing such as poetry, novels and plays attracts a higher rate depending on what is required. Kaixin will advise of the price after the poem or a sample of the writing has been read.
This is because there is usually a lot of meaning behind the words that require thought and interpretation. A second-rate translation at the standard fee would be easy, it would not, however, be accurate or reflect the meaning of the writing.

人生的路
看到这样一个故事：
山洪暴发，洪水紧帖着独木桥流过，不时有浪花溅到桥面上。有好心人在两岸连起一条绳索，横空挂在独木桥上方。
四个人来到岸边：一个盲人，一个聋哑人和两个健康人。他们都有急着要到对岸去。聋哑人不言不语，迈步上桥，摇摇晃晃中到了对岸。一个健康人引导着盲人，小心翼翼地安全过了桥。剩下一个健康人松了一口气，面对狂涌的河水，踏上了独木桥，却不幸中途滑落水中。
人们感到奇怪：为什么盲人和聋哑人都能顺利过桥，而那个耳聪目明的健康人却落水了呢？
聋哑人比画着表达自己的意思：我听不见河水汹涌的涛声，无形中少了许多顾虑，只要看准落脚点就行了。
盲人说：我根本就不知道河水有多大。在这位好心大哥的指引下，一步也没有走错。
活着的健康人说：我走在盲人前面，既要看好脚下的路，又要不时提醒身后的盲人，全身十二分的精神都在独木桥和绳索上，哪里还有精力去考虑浪高涛急？

A flash flood is coming.
The floodwaters are nearly over a bridge, which is made from a single plank of wood. The floodwaters flow closely under the bridge, fitting snugly, some splattering onto the bridge.
Kind people have stretched a rope over the bridge.
Four people came to the bank of river.
One is blind, one is deaf and dumb. The other two people are healthy.
They all want to hurry to the other side of the river.
The deaf and dumb person quietly walks onto the bridge, and, one step at a time, balancing carefully, crosses the river.
A healthy person then carefully leads a blind man across the bridge.
The last, healthy, person sighs with relief. He can now face the violently turbulent river. He sets foot on the bridge. However, unfortunately, he is unlucky and falls in half way across.
People must wondering why the blind person, along with the deaf and dumb person can cross over the bridge, but the healthy person who can see and hear falls off?
The deaf and dumb person uses hand language to express his thinking. “I couldn’t hear the turbulent river’s voice, so I did not need to worry much. I just needed to walk carefully and see the right steps.
The blind person said, “I didn’t know how big the flood is at all. I just followed this nice person, so I didn’t make any wrong steps.”
The healthy person, who was still alive, said, “I walked in front of the blind person. I needed to find the right way and keep telling instructions to the blind person who was following me. I focused all my concentration on the bridge and the rope so I didn’t have any spare concentration to think about the whether the waves were high and turbulence big.
The road of your life isn’t straight. You never know how hard it will be. One wrong step and it is too late. It is useless to repent after the event.
Success or failure does not depend on how difficult or dangerous the situation you find yourself in. It is simply decided by what inner demons are inside your heart, working away to bewilder you.
